Quote of the Day

Forwarded by brilliant Big Sister, of course.

“For those who study history — you recall that despite Obama’s continuous attempts to quote Lincoln as a Democrat . . . President Lincoln was a Republican President!
SO WHY DOESN’T OBAMA USE THIS FAMOUS LINCOLN QUOTE:

“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.”
… Abraham Lincoln

  1. Big Sis is one smart lady.

Perhaps Lincoln would say this about the Obama Administration

If this is coffee, please bring me some tea; but if this is tea, please bring me some coffee.
    Abraham Lincoln

  2. Perfect, Marco!

And Big Sis is a remarkable lady. I’d go as far as to say…”perfect”…but then I did, in a long post, didn’t I?

  3. Alas, if economist Thomas DiLorenzo is to be believed (see his “The Real Lincoln”), much of the overreach of modern government got a significant boost from Honest Abe himself.

If you’re up to reading the best article to appear this summer on the political class, see Angelo Codevilla’s feature essay in the July –August issue of “The American Spectator,” at http://spectator.org/archives/2010/07/16/americas-ruling-class-and-the/print. You’ll need to devote more time and attention to it than to a newspaper op-ed; but you’ll be amply rewarded for the effort.
