Forevermore Confine them to Faculty Lounges.

The “tweaking” of the kitchen begins today. We are replacing appliances and building an island. This may or may not result in increased Internet posting on my part. On one hand, I will be holed up with two dogs in the Den, so I may as well expound upon something or rant about Obama. On the other hand, I will be holed up with two dogs in the Den…who will no doubt be yipping, and crying, and patrolling the perimeter looking for a way to break out. Not really conducive to coherent thought.

I am a bit mellower these days politically. Mainly because Obama doesn’t need my help in alienating people in my immediate circle. I just saw the clip of his speech yesterday…the street cadence he uses when he talks to blue-collar “folk.” I wonder if they find it as demeaning as I do.

Back in the day, I did really well on the “Writing Sample” and did not have to take Freshman Comp. Instead I was put in a class called “Five Great Books” taught by the head of our English Department…a guy that might have been dropped in the classroom by Central Casting, complete with the turtleneck, cashmere sport coat and faux British accent. This was a small class and little blond-haired me was the only female. Nose in the air, he would drone on about this or that in his patrician way…only stopping occasionally, to turn to me, smile paternally, drop his voice and speak more slowly. One afternoon, he actually felt it was incumbent upon his task as an Educator to inform me…. in one of these public “asides”…that QUOTE: “When I say ‘man’… I mean men and women too.”

oh.

Thanks for clearing that up.

This is Obama when he drops into the fly-over states. We are being governed by Academics now…the Dreamers, the Tenured Talkers, the Denizens of the Faculty Lounge. The people who never met a pay-roll. Now they are running the show. For years, they’ve convinced themselves of their own superiority. If only, America apologized, the Middle East would embrace us. If only America stopped it’s bellicose activity, everyone else would too. They have convinced themselves of a new version of the ole “noble savage” theory…i.e. everyone that they deem a “victim” of America is not only benign, but benevolent, almost divine. They have boogeymen that are based on their “social agendas.” And so it follows that they fear fundamentalist Christianity and rail against it…but exhibit nothing like that emotional outrage toward fundamentalist Islam…whose view of women, gays, and imposition of THEIR respective religious beliefs on the unwilling is not nearly as terrifying to these Leftists as “Merry Christmas” sign in the Mall. They can actually be amusing when their hypocrisies are observed under controlled circumstances. But, dear God, as we have learned in this administration…they are deadly when in the wild.

The Tenured Talkers have never started or run a business but these poseurs claim to know how to do so better than those who have. They want to play “social justice” games with who gets hired in a recession, who gets bailed out by other taxpayers, whose hard-earned money they take way and give to others. They want to force Banks to give mortgages to those who cannot afford them for “social justice” reasons …then condemn the Banks when they falter under THEIR rules. They decided in the Auto bailout whose contracts to void to benefit the Other Guy they liked better. They are deciding some Thugs can intimidate voters but other Thugs of different skin hue cannot.

During the Healthcare debate, I thought often of the Medical oath…”First, do no harm.” That’s where most of these Left-wing fantasies break down. Nothing happens in a vacuum. When Obama imposes these new taxes and entitlements, he has no clue what great harm he might do HERE…to do some small bit if good THERE. He’s just seemingly “winging it.” That’s why Obama has become the Great Job Killer. He’s been “experimenting” with his faculty lounge ideas at the expense of American jobs. That’s why Obama has become the International Embarrassment He’s been bowing and scraping all over the world with nothing but derision to show for it. Maybe the Harvard faculty are a benign lot that respond to weakness with concession and to self-hate with Oprah-like adulation…(though from what I hear the atmosphere in departmental disagreements is more like that between angry Afghan war-lords.) But anyhooo, Obama is demeaning America to apparently no good result except with his Democratic political base.

How embarrassing.

But how enlightening.

Actually, in the long run…this may be all for the good. America had to see it to believe it. We had to have someone like “The One We Have Been Waiting For”…take the reins of control and after the most pompous-ass campaign in history …show just how incompetent and unconnected to the Real World he is.

Remember this:

“But crisis has a way of ushering even great events into the past. As Obama has moved with unprecedented speed to build an Administration that would bolster the confidence of a shaken world, his flash and dazzle have faded into the background. In the waning days of his extraordinary year and on the cusp of his presidency, what now seems most salient about Obama is the opposite of flashy, the antithesis of rhetoric: he gets things done. He is a man about his business — a Mr. Fix It going to Washington. That’s why he’s here and why he doesn’t care about the furniture. We’ve heard fine speechmakers before and read compelling personal narratives. We’ve observed candidates who somehow latch on to just the right issue at just the right moment. Obama was all these when he started his campaign: a talented speaker who had opposed the Iraq war and lived a biography that was all things to all people. But while events undermined those pillars of his candidacy, making Iraq seem less urgent and biography less relevant, Obama has kept on rising. He possesses a rare ability to read the imperatives and possibilities of each new moment and organize himself and others to anticipate change and translate it into opportunity.”

or this:

“I don’t think that Americans want hubris from their next President,” Obama says, noting that McCain received nearly 47% of the vote last month. However, “I do think that we received a strong mandate for change. And I know that people have said, ‘Well, what does this change word mean? You know that it’s sort of ill defined.’ Actually, we defined it pretty precisely during the campaign, and I’m trying to define it further for people during this transition,” he says. “It means a government that is not ideologically driven. It means a government that is competent. It means a government, most importantly, that is focused day in, day out on the needs and struggles, the hopes and dreams of ordinary people.”

Americans “should anticipate that 2009 is going to be a tough year,” he says. Then he adds, “If we make some good choices, I’m confident that we can limit some of the damage in 2009. And that in 2010 we can start seeing an upward trajectory on the economy.”

What Obama “has gotten done” is set us on the Road to Bankruptcy with his reckless spending, his “upward trajectory” has been spiking unemployment rates to almost 10% by terrifying the Business community, and polarized America to unprecedented levels by “playing favorites” with our tax dollars and justice system.

MR. Fix-it from the Faculty Lounge has flopped.

For years we heard the jibe…”Those who can…do. Those who can’t…teach.”

Or become community organizers.

Obama has succeeded mightily in that one area: he has proven to be an incredible teacher of the foolishness that pervades higher education. America has learned to its monumental regret…to leave these Dreamers to ferment in their Faculty Lounges…to corral them there where they can hurt no one…to therefore render them somewhat harmless…and going forward, to assign to their subsequent world fantasies…a benign but unyielding ridicule.

But, for God’s sake…keep them forever away from the reins of power!

And whatever remains of our tax dollars.

  1. Ah, to be Peter Hitchens today. Twenty-two months ago, before the One had even ascended into the Oval Office, Hitchens ridiculed the Obamaniacs and their unwillingness to run their hands under their hero’s halo. See Hitchens’s “The night we waved goodbye to America…” at http://hitchensblog.mailonsunday.co.uk/2008/11/the-night-we-wa.html. (Note to self: Ask the astute Hitchens if he plays the horses.)

That “Duke parent” fellow picked up on Hitchens (at http://s1.zetaboards.com/Liestoppers_meeting/single/?p=97060&t=547597) when he proposed dramatically expanding the membership rolls of the Mickey Mouse Club.

  2. Ahhh…that Duke Parent fellow could really write…it is SO good to read one of his essays again.

    • That is so true!

Re the kitchen remodel – prepare for the worst so that whatever happens will be a relief……that has been my motto these past several months. My hope for you is that your remodel is done well before the holidays!

Our kitchen, bathroom and bedroom remodel is slated for next spring……..it will be sort of like getting pregnant a second time….it happens once one has forgotten what labor pains really entail. Then, slowly it dawns on one what one endured and you really question whether or not one has lost one’s sanity!
